The targa-top version of the Veyron, the Veyron Grand Sport has started its journey on the production lines. Unveiled last year at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the “roofless” version is limited to a production run of 150 units, and the first unit has already been sold for $2.9 million. The remaining units will sell priced in the neighborhood of $2million.

A targa version for the Veyron was the best possible choice, because of lower costs of development and because no other solution could fit into the Veyron’s safety cage. With its roof in place, the Grand Sport will be able to reach a top speed of 252mph, which will go down to 224mph when the roof is removed.

EcoWatercraft’s all-electric Jetski does 50mph

The ECO Jetski from EcoWatercraft is a zero emission Jetski powered by electricity. Running on batteries, this Jetski does not contribute to air pollution, and it does not make a loud noise like conventional Jetskis. Once fully charged, it can run for three hours and reach a top speed of 50mph. There is no word on pricing or availability yet, but the company seems very confident and has a whole lot of promises to offer. Let’s just hope they can put production ECO Jetskis on the waters, and do that at affordable prices.

One-off gold plated Wii for the Queen of England

THQ, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software, has sent an unusual, glittering gift to the Queen of England, and it’s a gold plated Wii. The one-off blinged device was delivered to Buckingham Palace. Finished in gold, the unique Wii console was specially commissioned for the Royal Family to mark the launch of brand new BIG Family Games for the Wii. The gilded Wii was delivered along with one of the first copies of BIG Family Games. THQ’s Danielle Robinson said in a press release that BIG Family Games is the ultimate Wii game to get all family members, from grandparents to young children, playing together. Her Majesty and other members of the Royal Family will be able to play 24 unique twists on classic family games, including golf, tennis, ladder golf, lawn darts, horseshoes and bocce. Danielle Robinson further said…

We thought that Her Majesty the Queen wouldn’t want to play on any old console, so an extra-special gold one was commissioned. We hope that she and the rest of the Royal Family enjoy the game!

I must say it’s an intelligent marketing strategy and it might give an impetus to the sales of BIG Family Games for the Wii.

Speculation: Renderings for a four-door Veyron

Speculations for a new Veyron are hot again, and even though it seems very unlikely, the renderings are for a four-door model. According to Auto Express, Bugatti will unveil a four-door Veyron at the Frankfurt Motor Show, as part of its centenary celebrations. Inspiration for the new model comes from the 1927 Type 41 Royale. Power will come from the Veyron’s W16 albeit front-mounted, and the interiors will get more luxurious.

The Royale will be built on a chassis co-developed with Bentley, and this same chassis will also go under the new Arnage. Interesting as all this sounds, it does seem a bit far-fetched. Another special edition Veyron, most likely; a new model, very unlikely.

World’s smallest car ready for debut

The world’s smallest car is about the size of a domestic washing machine, or more specifically, 39×26x51 inches. It beats its predecessor by a full eight inches. The creation of Perry Watkins is so small that it looks more like a kiddy car, but hey… it got hot rod flames! This little toyish thing isn’t going to be of any practical use, but it will make its way to the record books when it is unveiled this weekend. Watkins deserves applause for managing to put in the engine, suspension and even the wheels in the “generous” space he had.

Geek Bluetooth Retro Handset

Okay, so apparently this Bluetooth stuff is named after a 10th century king of Denmark who enjoyed eating blueberries a bit too much, resulting in blue stained teeth. Harold "Bluetooth" Gormson helped to unite Sweden, Norway, and Denmark much like the way Bluetooth helps to unite your wireless gadgets under a single standard. And did we mention that the Bluetooth logo is composed of the rune characters representing his initials - H and B. But that's enough useless trivia for today - let's move onto something much more important!

We have taken the ever-popular Retro Handset and updated it to connect to your cell phone using Bluetooth technology. That's right! No more tangled up phone cord. Now people will think you're really crazy talking into a old-time handset connected to... nothing. Oh, and speaking of nothing, there's nothing out there quite like this handset because this product is a ThinkGeek original design, only available here. How 'bout them blueberries?
  • Battery charges via USB connection
  • Make and receive calls
  • Approximately 30 ft range

Volvo P1800 gets the modern touch

Koenigsegg engineer Mattias Vocks, with some help from Vizualtech’s Bo Zolland has created renderings for a modern interpretation of the classic Volvo P1800. The classic car received a few modifications, including improved aerodynamics by the use of a rear diffuser, flat underbody tray and a smoothened front fascia stretched by 70mm. Power comes from the XC90’s 4.4-l V8 that generates 600hp. It is possible that this remains as a design for ever, but it is believed that a small number of these cars will be put into production.

Beetle-on-eyes says no to drunken driving

People will usually stay miles from something giving lectures on drinking and driving, but a German govt. agency managed to make people come forward for the don’t drink and drive campaign. The star of the campaign of course is the VW Beetle moving on wheel caps shaped like eyeballs. The promotional cars were used at public events where the car received a good response from the public. Oh, and those eyes on the caps… they represent “drunkenly revolving eyes.”

Flying Car! The renderings from ZEEP Design show a car that can transform into a helicopter. Blades on the rotor remain folded and out of sight when not in use, and once required, they span out to convert it to a full-fledged copter. Simultaneously, the tail rotor that’s generally tucked at the car’s rear comes out to complete the transformation.

The car moves on the huge front wheels, and the small black wheel (that also functions as the tail rotor) is used for steering. For controlling the CCC, the cockpit has a control sphere at the right arm and three color-coded buttons on the left arm. An interesting and futuristic concept.

limited edition yellow BlackBerry Bold

To celebrate the department store’s 100th birthday, Selfridges has commissioned BlackBerry-maker RIM to create an exclusive, limited edition yellow BlackBerry Bold. There will be 10 limited edition BlackBerry Bold devices available in the Selfridges’ trademark Pantone 109 yellow color. These handsets will feature a leather back plate and redesigned number keys on the front. To top that, every handset in the edition will come with exclusive VIP support. Other famed brands, which have collaborated with Selfridges to celebrate the centenary, include Jimmy Choo, Lulu Guinness, Mulberry, Paul Smith, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren, Smythson, Marc Jacobs and Giles Deacon. The limited edition Selfridges BlackBerry Bold will sell for £1,000 ($1,450). Now, that’s a stocky price to pay for a BlackBerry Bold in these tough times.
